08/11/2008 Hasbro SDCC Exclusive Mighty Muggs Movie Edition Iron Man Review
Another day and another SDCC exclusive. Today is the Hasbro Mighty Muggs Movie Edition Iron Man figure. I know I have said that I might not get anymore Mighty Muggs because of the issues I have had with some real sub par paint jobs but this Iron Man was too cool looking for me to pass up. I mean he is soooo shiny! Having said that, I am still going to have to think real hard about picking up anymore of these figures.
There are great graphics that go all along the box giving you something cool to look at at almost every angle. It is not a boring box at all even if my box is a little beat up like it is.
There isn't a lot of articulation in these figures. They have the basic neck and shoulder articulation only. If you have been buying Mighty Muggs, you already know this. There were no accessories included and I didn't really expect any either.
The paint job is where this figure both rocks and fails at the same time. It rocks because this is the Movie Edition Iron Man and is super shiny. It really stands out in a crowd of other Mighty Muggs. I prefer it much more than the stand Comic Version. It makes you look at it as it draws your attention with its vibrant colors. It fails because once again there is little care in the paint application. Like other Mighty Muggs I have it almost appears that the paint sprayers were dirty when applying the paint. It is rough in spots as if there is uneven spray or even microscopic dirt under the paint. This isn't in one spot but in many areas overall the figure. This failure in quality particularly annoys me with this figure because it is so cool looking otherwise. Why can't Hasbro paint these with a little more care? In a convention exclusive when you are paying more than a standard release, it is even more disappointing.
This figure is sold out at Hasbro Toy Shop and sold out at SDCC. I paid $16.50 for it at the show. This is a little more than a standard Mighty Muggs figure. Too bad I couldn't get a quality paint job with the price increase. I saw several dealers on Saturday and Sunday with signs at their booths advertising that they were buying this figure. I suspect this one might end up being one of the more desired and valuable Mighty Muggs figures. I am giving this figure a *** out of five star rating. It is very cool looking from a distance but just don't look too close at it. And it may cost you some extra cash to pick up at this point. I don't know if it is worth the premium price. Remember - Heroes aren't born - They're built!
