08/10/2008 Hasbro SDCC Exclusive GI Joe Combat Heroes Snake Eyes & Timber Review
I took a bit of a hiatus because San Diego Comic Con wore me out. That show is a little too much - too many people, too many lines, too many exclusives. So now I am back and I am going to post a few reviews of some of the exclusives I picked up while I was there. First up is the GI Joe Combat Heroes Snake Eyes and Timber preview figure set. While this figure line is not due out until 2009, Hasbro treated us with this preview two pack now. It is in the same style that has worked well for Hasbro initially for Star Wars and now Transformers, Marvel and Indiana Jones. They are more than a little silly and are made for little kids in mind but I am one of the adults that love this particular style.
The figures were easy to free from the packaging with no twisty ties inside. The sculpts as I have already mentioned are a bit on the silly side - especially Timber but that is what these are supposed to be. They aren't meant to be realistic but rather a fun alternative look at the characters.
The paint jobs are adequate with no real slop. You won't be blown away with this basic paint job but it is adequate for the size and style of the toy.
There isn't a lot of articulation in these figures either. They usually only have a couple of points. Snake Eyes has articulation in the shoulders, wrists and waist and Timber has one point at the neck.
You should have no trouble finding bad guys for Snake Eyes from the other Heroes toy lines while you wait for the full GI Joe Combat Heroes line to be released. All the Heroes lines work pretty well with one anther. As you can see here Snake Eyes is ready to take on an Indiana Jones Adventure Heroes figure. This figure set is still available at Hasbro Toy Shop for $7.99. You will probably get a lot more Snake Eyes figurs in this toy line as he is a popular character that gets made over and over again but this is a fun little set that will hold you over for the 2009 release of this toy line. I have always liked the 3 3/4" Joes more than any other scale Hasbro released over the years but I will be chasing all of these down once they hit stores. I am giving this set a *** 1/2 out of five star rating. They are really cool toys but I wasn't blown away by them but yet I am looking forward to more. AND Don't forget - the ladies love Timber!
