05/31/2008 Hasbro Iron Man Movie Titanium Man ReviewI haven't picked up many Iron Man movie toys. I have the standard Mark 03 Iron Man which I think is a really beautiful figure. I also picked up the first Iron Monger at the same time. I wasn't too excited about that figure when I pulled it off the hooks but I wanted someone for that cool Iron Man to beat on. It was my only choice at the moment. I got rid of that Iron Monger a week or two later. I thought I might regret getting rid of it after I saw the movie but I didn't. It wasn't a bad figure. I just found it a bit dull. I knew at the time they were making this Titanium Man figure. He looked cool in all the pictures I saw and I knew this is what I needed for an Iron Man punching bag. That was around two months or so ago and I feel like I have been waiting forever to finally get this figure.
I like this packaging. I was happily surprised to see Hasbro had the bubble insert paper double sided so that it kind of looks like you are inside Iron Man on in the inside looking out. Overall it properly feels Iron Man to me. . This figure is a tiny bit shorter than the Mark 03 Iron Man. It is also a little stockier. I have read somewhere that this armor design is based on a character in the Iron Man Movie video game. I haven't had a chance to play that yet but it is a fun way to tie this figure with the game. I am not for sure if it screams Titanium Man to me but it looks cool. It actually reminds me a bit more of the Vault's Guardsmen. The figure is painted well enough meaning it is as bland as the first Iron Monger. Unfortunately it doesn't have as many paint apps as the Toy Biz Marvel Legends had. It could look a little better with a more detailed paint job but this will do for me. I do like the choice of green they used but I wish there was a little bit more of it. It doesn't seem quite Titanium Man with that small amount of green. The articulation is pretty decent. It has all the standard articulation points - neck, ball jointed shoulders, upper arms, double elbow, wrist, ball jointed hips, knees and ankles. The details of the armor restrict the articulation a little but nothing serious.
Double Concussion Blast indeed! The double shot rocket launcher is the only accessory that this figure comes with. It is cool enough and I am sure fun for the kids but it is a bit too large for my liking. At least it isn't neon. I didn't realize how big it was until I put it on the figure's wrist.
I am not the biggest fan of those hand sculpts either. I just couldn't find the greatest pose for this figure and those hands were part of the reason. The left hand in that weird partial grasp is the one that is the biggest problem. This cost me $9.99 at a local Wal-Mart. I think that is about an average price for this figure. I am sure you will see this at greatly inflated prices at local comic shops, comic cons and toy shows. I saw one local comic shop had this figure for $20 earlier this week. At the time I really wanted it but wasn't willing to pay twice the sticker price for it. I would advise you don't either. I think it might be packed one per case and is difficult to find at the moment but be patient. I can't imagine Hasbro won't crank out a bunch of figures to cash in on the huge success of the movie.
I am giving this figure a *** 1/2 rating out of five stars. It is a cool, solid figure. It may not look at like the Titanium Man you are familiar with but it still works as a villain to battle your Iron Man.
